About Qtum

Qtum is a proof-of-stake blockchain that combines Bitcoin’s transaction model with Ethereum-compatible smart contracts; QTUM is its native coin.

Qtum is an open-source public blockchain launched in 2017. It takes the UTXO transaction model from Bitcoin and adds a layer that runs Ethereum-compatible smart contracts. The network is secured by proof of stake, and the Qtum Foundation supports its development. The client is updated regularly to follow new versions of both Bitcoin Core and the Ethereum virtual machine.

QTUM pays transaction fees and gas and is used for staking. Anyone who runs a full node with coins in the wallet can produce blocks; there is no minimum amount. Holders who do not want to run a node can delegate an address to a Super Staker for an agreed fee while keeping their own keys. Blocks come about every 32 seconds.

The supply started at 100 million QTUM and grows slowly through block rewards that halve every four years, with a maximum of 107,822,406. On 2 October 2026 the explorer showed about 106.12 million QTUM, a block reward of 0.25 QTUM and annual inflation of 0.23%.
