Midnight

NIGHT is the token of Midnight, a privacy blockchain and Cardano partner chain that uses zero-knowledge proofs for selective disclosure.

Midnight is a blockchain built for privacy. It uses zero-knowledge proofs, so an application can keep data confidential and still prove that a rule was met. The project calls this selective disclosure. Midnight is a partner chain of Cardano. NIGHT launched on Cardano on 4 December 2025, and the Midnight mainnet produced its genesis block on 17 March 2026.

Midnight has two parts. NIGHT is a public token used to secure the network, to vote in future governance and to generate DUST. DUST is a shielded resource that pays transaction fees. It cannot be transferred, it builds up while NIGHT is held and it decays when the link to the NIGHT balance is cut. Fees paid in DUST are not collected by anyone.

The network is at an early, federated stage. Blocks are produced by thirteen permissioned nodes run by operators such as Google Cloud, Blockdaemon and MoneyGram, and these producers receive no block rewards. The plan is to open block production to Cardano stake pool operators and to pay rewards from a locked Reserve. No date is given. Protocol changes are approved by a multisig governance committee.

Total supply is 24 billion NIGHT and no new tokens can be created. About 16.6 billion circulated in October 2026. The Midnight Foundation and Midnight TGE Ltd. together hold 50.25% of supply with no protocol lockup. Community tokens from the Glacier Drop and Scavenger Mine unlock in four tranches until December 2026.
