Axie Infinity

Axie Infinity is a blockchain game where players collect and battle NFT creatures; AXS is its governance and staking token.

Axie Infinity is a game built by the Vietnamese studio Sky Mavis, founded in 2018. Players collect, breed and battle creatures called Axies, which are NFTs that players own. The game runs mainly on Ronin, a blockchain Sky Mavis built for it.

AXS (Axie Infinity Shards) is the game's governance token. It is used to breed Axies, to stake and to vote on the use of the Community Treasury. The Treasury earns 4.25% of all Axie marketplace sales and the AXS part of breeding fees. An independent Axie Foundation now acts as trustee and carries out on-chain votes.

Supply is capped at 270 million AXS. Staking rewards came from a fixed allocation that was about 95% distributed by late 2025; since January 2026 game rewards are paid as bonded AXS (bAXS), backed 1:1 by AXS and not transferable at first.

Axie Infinity was a play-to-earn hit in 2021, when AXS peaked near $165. In March 2022 the Ronin bridge was hacked for $625 million. In October 2026 AXS traded around $1.15.
